The Local Communitiy of Aras UNESCO Global Geopark
Aras UNESCO Global Geopark is in East Azerbaijan province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Jolfa. Jolfa is a frontier city located on the southern bank of the Aras River, 135 kilometers north of Tabriz. The people of this region speak Azerbaijani Turkish.

Population
The 2016 census measured the population of Aras Geopark as 61,358 in 19,443 households.

There are 49 villages within the Aras Global Geopark, some of which are tourist villages with historical and natural heritage, and some host geosites, ecotourism lodges, and ecomuseums.

Economic Status
The Aras Free Zone, a large part of which is located within the Aras Global Geopark, has a common border with Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and its location in international transportation corridors, a significant economic history, a suitable climate, and rich water resources, have led to the prosperity of tourism, industry, agriculture, services, and science and education within the Aras Global Geopark.
